KNEW LIFE PHYSIOTHERAPY & PELVIC HEALING WORK SHOPS DESCRIPTIONS
FINDING YOUR INNER CORE
The inner core is comprised of 4 muscles (diaphragm, transverse abdominus, multifidi and pelvic floor) that stabilize the body rather then move it. They create the foundation that glues us together. These muscles are buried deep inside, out of sight and often out of mind. Therefore, as you can imagine, finding them and strengthening them becomes somewhat of a challenge. This workshop focuses on finding the inner core, through breathing techniques, mobility and strengthening exercises. Be prepared to feel challenged as you tap in to the deepest parts of you!
LOWER EXTREMITY STABILITY
The stability, strength and symmetry of the lower body is paramount to optimal pelvic floor function. The leg and hip muscles provide support for the many roles of the pelvic floor muscles (PFMs). Any imbalances in the lower extremity muscles can negatively impact the position of the pelvis and ultimately the function of the PFMs. This workshop is sure to challenge the stability and balance of your legs and glutes by using exercise balls and mobility bands.
POSTURE & UPPER BODY STRENGTHENING
Who doesn’t want better posture? All sensation and movement capacities come from the nerves that project off the spine. Poor posture can interfere with the function of all muscles especially those housed in the pelvis. Poor posture can also interfere with proper breathing, which directly impacts the function of the inner core (diaphragm, transverse abdominus, multifidi and pelvic floor). If you have a sedentary job and sit for 8 hours per day you won’t want to miss this workshop. All exercises shown will be done on an exercise ball always considering the role of the inner core muscles; stability!!!
STRETCHING FOR THE PELVIC FLOOR
Connective tissue has increasingly gained popularity throughout the health care field, more so amongst pelvic floor specialist. Why? Because the anatomy of the pelvic floor is such that, any tightening of connective tissue as a result of stress, whether physical or emotional, can directly impact the function of the pelvic floor muscles. We therefore have to explore ways to release the connective tissue to restore optimal function of the inner core. The combination of foam rolling and dynamic stretching make this possible.!!
YIN YOGA FOR PELVIC PAIN MANAGEMENT
The pelvis, is the area of the body most populated by ligaments and connective tissue. Yin yoga is a style of yoga that focuses directly on lengthening such tissues. Yin yoga helps restore peace and serenity in the body by tapping into the central nervous system and activating our parasympathetic nervous system, also known as our rest & digest nervous system. In this day and age, we are bombarded with things that stimulate our sympathetic nervous system, also known as our fight, flight or freeze nervous system. Unfortunately, the chronic stimulation of this system shuts down our bodies ability to activate the rest & digest system thereby restricting our bodies ability to heal. This workshop is for all those who have experienced stress in any shape or form in their lifetime. !
CARDIO
Get ready to sweat! This workshop teaches the principles behind high intensity interval training (HIIT). This type of training has been proven to be the most effective form of training for improving one’s cardiovascular endurance. When it comes to rehabilitating any muscle in the body, including the pelvic floor muscles, we are only as strong as our weakest link! The heart muscle, therefore, must be strong enough to effectively exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide to all parts of the body for proper healing to occur. Treadmill walking and elliptical training days are over! This cardio workout will effectively challenge your cardiovascular system utilizing the various exercises taught in previous workshops to help you reach your goals in half the time.
